Mysore was the capital of its royal kingdom for nearly six centuries. Only after Indian independence in 1947, the city ceased to exist as a capital for the Kingdom of Mysore. The city is located near Chamundi Hills and currently has a population of over 8 lakhs. The administration of the city is controlled by MCC or Mysore City Corporation. The members of MCC are elected by the residents of Mangalore and the elected members choose the Mayor of MCC. The maintenance of roads and up gradation falls under the shoulders of MCC.

This main road of Mysore is under MUDA or Mysore Urban Development Authority. The Mysore Ring Road is over forty two kilometer. In recent years the road has been upgraded from two-lanes to six lanes and the total cost was over 340 crore.
Highways in Mysore
NH-212 connects Mysore to Gundlupet. NH-17 connects Bangalore to Mysore and this was updated to four lanes in 2006. State Highway 33 and 88 connect HD Kote and Madhkeri to Mysore. There are many buses from Mysore running thru KSRTC or The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Mysore is also planning for its own Mysore City Transport Corporation in time to come.
Mysore Road or SH-17
The State Highway-17 is also known as Mysore Road and connects two important cities of Karnataka, Bangalore and Mysore. The length of SH-17 is around 140 km. This state highway is maintained by KSRTC and it was built by it also. This highway passes over areas like Ramanagara, Mandya and Sringapatnam before touching Mysore. This highway passes over the Kaveri River too.
State Highway-88
SH-88 connects Bantam to Mysore. The total length of SH-88 is around 220 km and this state highway connects Mysore to the beautiful Madikeri and Mysore, the other important city in Mangalore. This road is also used to connect Mysore to northern region of Kerala. The SH-88 is maintained by Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd.
